Umpqua Unites is a committee dedicated to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Umpqua Community College. We formed organically over the 2013-2014 academic year via informal conversations between several faculty, staff, and students. These conversations led to the formation of a Task Force, which conducted focus groups and research during the 2014-2015 academic year.
Our research showed us that while UCC is an amazing place, we can be better. We received approval to become a committee, and we are now on a quest: to ensure all students, staff, and faculty feel included, respected, and safe on our campus.
There are two ways to help achieve those goals. You can get involved with Got Respect? if you want to engage in research to determine what actions to take, or if you have a more activist or educational bent get involved in Take a Stand! which is the action/education arm of Umpqua Unites. Meanwhile, post your story to help guide the process. Don’t forget to include positive experiences. Those stories are examples of what we want to achieve.
